Sight-reading

Eight to twelve bars, simple keys, syncopation may appear, characteristic pop / rock textures.

Practice tips for this grade

  • Identify any syncopation before starting and clap it through.

  • Read the chord symbols even when notes are printed — they reinforce harmony.

  • Imagine the drum kit underneath; it locks the pulse.
