Rondo

Definition

A musical form consisting of a principal theme (or subject) alternating with contrasting episodes. The structure typically follows an A-B-A-C-A-B-A pattern, where 'A' represents the main theme and 'B' and 'C' represent contrasting sections. Originating in the Classical period, it is frequently found in piano repertoire, such as Mozart's Rondo in D Major for Piano, K. 536, and Chopin's Rondo à la Krakowiak, Op. 14.
