Melodic Minor

The Melodic Minor scale is an ascending minor scale with unique notes for each half, used primarily in jazz and contemporary classical music. It originated as a way to facilitate smooth, chromatic passagework and was formalized during the Baroque period. In piano repertoire, it can be found in various compositions by Ravel, Debussy, and other 20th-century composers.
